In 2019 I had my first baby
I was met with a challenging delivery and an unexpected diagnosis for my daughter. I pushed a lot of that trauma aside to navigate postpartum life as a new mom to a medically complex child. In 2021, I became pregnant a second time – and instantly I knew I wanted a different experience. Despite making a few positive changes, even that birth left a lot to be desired. I was “0 for 2”. It was then that The Sage Sister was really born. I dove into the birth world head first. Quickly, I became passionate and highly informed. I trained and certified as a doula through DONA International in 2023 and immediately began offering my services to the mothers of NJ, often uncovering choices and options they didn’t even realize they had. But most of all, I was making sure they felt secure & empowered. If I couldn’t have it for myself, I wanted every woman around me to experience a satisfying – maybe even magical or redemptive – birth story. Today I strive to offer my clients sage guidance coupled with a familiar, sisterly kinship. You’ve come here because deep down inside, you want this life event to be transformative in the best possible way… and I’m so stoked to watch you get there.

Halo Louise 👼🏼🎀 This was mama’s third baby, and longest pregnancy yet. Patience, trust in her body, and a strong birth team led finally to a fast and beautiful labor - another remimder that she can, in fact, do anything. What a blessing it is to walk away feeling empowered and supported through the greatest transition of your life, and what an honor it is to witness the magic time and time again. ✨ @sagemidwiferynj @ourbirthingcenter #naturalbirth #unmedicatedbirth #birthcenter #birthphotography #birthphotographer
photos by @betweentheolives, edits & words by @the.sage.sister // welcome to the world, chloe josephine 💕🎀 mama was a repeat client of mine; welcoming her second baby at 39 weeks at the birth center in 2024 in an easy, breezy delivery that i was blessed to both capture and witness. fast forward to 2026, and her third baby was a planned home birth. there was a significant but unlikely possibility that i’d be out of the country for the birth, leaving just before the 41 week mark. naturally, sweet girl decided to join us at 41+3. i facetimed in and sent my love, as another precipitous labor unfolded with @betweentheolives as my backup support. this one was anything but easy breezy. was it a “good” birth? by many standards; yes. but for this mama, she was left wanting more and yearning for a less chaotic, more peaceful and supported experience. right after her baby came, one of her daughters entered the birth space and was welcomed with open arms. she saw the placenta, she cut the cord. she witnessed her mother magically put her to bed pregnant and - a mere handful of hours later - surprise her with a baby! my client wasn’t afraid of her daughter’s involvement. she understands and believes in the importance of normalizing birth for our young girls…. and because of that, despite this being her hardest birth yet, she can look back on those early golden hour moments with pride - knowing that her experience has undoubtedly left a massive imprint on her daughter’s heart. #homebirth #naturalbirth #unmedicatedbirth #midwiferycare #doulasupport

This sweet girl came barging right into the world! Mama went from possible contractions to having a baby in under 4 hours! I was blown away at how logically and confidently this client handled a giant shift in her birth plan at the eleventh hour, and while it ended up been much more chaotic than her dream birth should have been… she did ultimately labor free of meds, wires and monitors - and baby stayed attached to her placenta for over an hour! What an incredible story to tell her someday! Welcome to the world, Elise 💕 something tells me you will really know how to hold your own! 💪 #birthphotographer #birthphotography #birthstory #birthphoto

FAQ
A: I am always open to creating custom packages for interested families! Get in touch and we can almost always work something out.
A: During your prenatal visits, I will put you in touch with one of my back up doulas! I’m lucky to have trained with an amazing cohort of DONA professionals. It’s a great idea to connect with your designated backup doula before delivery, so they are a familiar face on the big day.
A: Technically, “active labor” is from 6 centimeters onward and/or when contractions are 3-4 minutes apart. We will be in touch throughout early labor, and I’ll be observing patterns of behavior that indicate you might be headed into the active stage.
A: Absolutely! I support hospital, birth center & home births!
A: Quite the contrary! As doulas, we are there to support partners, too. Watching a loved one give birth can be a nerve wracking milestone, and they often feel a lot of pressure to be an amazing labor companion. We are there to guide your partner and utilize them so that you BOTH feel empowered.
As a C-Section mama myself, having my doula present in the operating room was an absolute game changer! Doulas frequently provide emotional support, take photos, and advocate for more gentler, family-centered cesarean sections. Whether your surgical birth is pre-planned or unexpected, I am always happy to provide support in the operating room when permitted.
A: Around 10 days postpartum, we reunite in person! It’s a wonderful time to touch base with any questions you may have about healing, lactation, postpartum mental health – or even just to have a hand holding the baby while you shower! Most importantly, it’s a time for us to rehash the birth which is so important as you begin your fourth trimester.
