In 2019 I had my first baby

 

I was met with a challenging delivery and an unexpected diagnosis for my daughter. I pushed a lot of that trauma aside to navigate postpartum life as a new mom to a medically complex child. In 2021, I became pregnant a second time – and instantly I knew I wanted a different experience. Despite making a few positive changes, even that birth left a lot to be desired. I was “0 for 2”. It was then that The Sage Sister was really born. I dove into the birth world head first – taking courses, listening to podcasts and reading studies. Quickly, I became passionate and informed. I began offering virtual support to friends and loved ones throughout their pregnancies and labors, often uncovering choices and options they didn’t even realize they had. But most of all, I was making sure they felt secure & empowered. If I couldn’t have it for myself, I wanted every woman around me to experience a satisfying – maybe even magical or redemptive – birth story. Today I strive to offer my clients sage guidance coupled with a familiar, sisterly kinship. FAQ

A: I am always open to creating custom packages for interested families! Get in touch and we can almost always work something out.

A: During your prenatal visits, I will put you in touch with one of my back up doulas! I’m lucky to have trained with an amazing cohort of DONA professionals. It’s a great idea to connect with your designated backup doula before delivery, so they are a familiar face on the big day.

A: Technically, “active labor” is from 6 centimeters onward and/or when contractions are 3-4 minutes apart. We will be in touch throughout early labor, and I’ll be observing patterns of behavior that indicate you might be headed into the active stage.

A: Absolutely! I support hospital, birth center & home births!

A: Quite the contrary! As doulas, we are there to support partners, too. Watching a loved one give birth can be a nerve wracking milestone, and they often feel a lot of pressure to be an amazing labor companion. We are there to guide your partner and utilize them so that you BOTH feel empowered.

As a C-Section mama myself, having my doula present in the operating room was an absolute game changer! Doulas frequently provide emotional support, take photos, and advocate for more gentler, family-centered cesarean sections. Whether your surgical birth is pre-planned or unexpected, I am always happy to provide support in the operating room when permitted.

A: Around 10 days postpartum, we reunite in person! It’s a wonderful time to touch base with any questions you may have about healing, lactation, postpartum mental health – or even just to have a hand holding the baby while you shower! Most importantly, it’s a time for us to rehash the birth which is so important as you begin your fourth trimester.

I found Liz in my third trimester and I’m so happy I did. I wanted to labor at home for as long as possible before heading to the birth center and she was a perfect match. My husband and I had a long prenatal visit with her when I was 37 weeks and we learned a lot. We created my birth plan and went over a lot of helpful things to do during labor. Liz didn’t attend the actual birth (no one did because my son came VERY quickly at home), but her support postpartum was incredible and so appreciated. I had two postpartum visits with Liz and she also provided constant support via text and FaceTime. On top of being an amazing Doula, she’s also an incredible photographer and captured some beautiful pictures of our family. I would recommend Liz to anyone and I’m so thankful for her!

From the moment I ended my first Zoom call with Liz, I knew that she was the doula for me. She has a listening ear and comes from a place of genuinely wanting to help women achieve the birth of their dreams. Liz was in contact with me throughout my pregnancy from the moment I hired her. Not only did she check in to see how I was doing physically and emotionally, but she helped guide me in choosing a new provider who was more in line with my birth goals. If I was in need of a resource, she provided it. If I had a question, she answered it. During our 2 prenatal visits together, Liz came to my home equipped with the tools to help me write my birth plan and to help me prepare for the day that I went into labor. When that day finally came, Liz was accessible by text/ call to both me and my husband. She went so far as to call my midwife for me when I was having a hard time getting through due to the line being busy. She arrived at the birth center before me and my husband and not only helped to guide me through contractions, but served as a calm presence who was constantly aware of my birth plan- ready and willing to advocate on my behalf if need be. An added bonus is that she offers birth photography which I hired her for and am SO glad that I did. I have photos that captured my labor and birth that I will treasure for a lifetime along with the memories of my natural water birth that I dreamed of for 9 months. I believe that Liz was a key factor in me achieving the birth that I envisioned for myself. If you are considering hiring her, do it. She is a wonderful doula and human being.

I cannot say enough good things about Liz supporting me through a wonderful birth experience. After some consultations with other doulas I found that Liz’s personality and passion clicked with what I was looking for. I hired Liz to be my doula when I was 26 weeks pregnant and it was one of the best decisions I made during my pregnancy. As a second time mom to be I was hesistant to think that I "needed" a doula. But as my pregnancy continued fear started to creep in. My experience with Liz as my doula was truly phenomenal. From the moment we connected, I knew we were the right fit. Her communication was immediate and thoughtful, as a working mom, I deeply appreciated her sense of urgency and genuine desire to support moms in need. I sought out a doula because I was considered “advanced maternal age” with my second baby, and there was a lot of fear-based messaging around potential complications and C-sections. Her attention to detail is unmatched. Leading up to delivery, she was a constant source of calm, especially during a major snowstorm when I worried I might go into labor early. After birth, when our son had a brief NICU stay and I experienced complications, Liz continued checking in on both me and my husband. That level of care speaks volumes. She is knowledgeable, certified, deeply compassionate, and incredibly detail-oriented. A true rockstar. I would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone looking for a doula.
