Indie’s “Wicked” Sixth!

Since it came out in November, the WICKED movie has had us all completely smitten! Indie & Stevie are huge fans of Glinda & Elphaba, the songs, the colors, the animals… I knew it would make for a perfectly ‘Popular’ party theme so I began digging around for a company that could help me execute my vision. I was so lucky to stumble upon Madison Soiree as an amazing “does-it-all” party venue in Morris County! Read on for what we planned, other vendors that hopped on board, and of course the photo gallery from “One Short Day” in Indie’s Emerald City!

My search for the perfect indoor location began broadly… and I totally honed in on Soiree becase of the pink & green wallpaper. It already matched the SUPER girly aesthetic (think: Glinda’s dormitory) – so I reached out in hopes that they’d be able to accommodate my vision for the party, which was a little bit of beauty, mixed with some wicked themed crafts and some dancing thrown in to get those sillies out. In years past, I have done every single aspect of my parties… so this was the first time I was really entrusting someone else to make this all happen. I worked with Darcy from Soiree to create the ultimate party plan! First the girls would decorate magic Glinda wands with gems, ribbons, and all the things – then they’d DIY some custom lip gloss at their very own vanity mirror, and lastly they’d make Wicked themed SLIME – pink or green, of course! They got to take all of these things home with them in their own reusable tote bag. In the background, we’d be playing the Wicked soundtrack, of course. I was totally sold! At Soiree, there’s no need for bringing in beautiful kids’ tables & chairs because they already have them! They also have choices of table linens, runners, plates, cups, cake stands…. you could literally just show up, which is amazing. If pink, girly & glam is the vibe you’re going for… Soiree has every single thing you could possibly need, and all you have to do is sit back and enjoy! I chose pink & green runners, pink plates with bows that Glinda herself would love, and Soiree added the surprise bonus of pink & green bows on the back of each girl’s chair! How gorgeous! To add a little extra flair, I brought my old faithful bud vases and added some faux poppies (if you saw the Wicked movie, you know that poppies are significant!) as well as a bit of confetti that I found on Etsy.

It’s not a party without balloons! I hired Balloons By D to make some magic for us and she always delivers. This balloon display was her best work yet! It made for a great backdrop for photos, singing Happy Birthday, etc. Speaking of singing Happy Birthday – Sweet Charlie’s Confections came through with incredible (and delectable) sweets in our theme! The cake was heart shaped – half Elphie, half Glinda – and some cupcakes to match! She used little mini cones to create an edible witch hat. The talent that comes together for these parties is absolutely insane! We sent each girl home with a bracelet made by Beaded On Ryder! I sent over some inspiration and Jess, the owner & beadmaster, made four different variations – “For Good”, “Popular”, “Defying Gravity”, and my favorite – “Unlimited”. We put a bracelet at each place setting and they were such a hit! She can make and ship custom bracelets anywhere within the US!

Last but not least, I always make sure that I hire a photographer for my events because it’s important to me that I capture all the moments, but I still value being present and being an active part of my kids’ birthdays. Mark Martucci Photo is wonderful – great with kids, an amazing eye, and a true professional! It’s always worth the extra investment to have those lasting tangible memories from such special milestones (and to make sure you’re actually in the photos, too!)

Huge thank you to all of my vendors on this event – the kids had a blast, and everything was done perfectly. Below you’ll find a gallery of photos – a sneak peek into our awesome day, and some inspiration for you if you decide to do something like this yourself! What was your favorite detail?
