buttoned up: why i've fallen in love with the shirtdress

i’ve officially fallen in love with the shirtdress, especially this one. the who what wear collection from target is basically nailing it all around, but this piece in particular stands out for me. i had been in the market for some dresses that were easy to wear day or night (since i have several functions coming up to be presentable for), and that were of course on top of the current trends. the length on this dress makes it really special. it hits mid-calf (otherwise known as “midi”). the midi trend is huge right now, and it gave a ‘plain jane’ silhouette a spring 2017 makeover. target makes this dress in a few different prints, and i chose this one because it offered a more retro type of floral that stood out against all the traditional floral prints that i’ve been seeing everywhere this spring/summer season. it ties at the waist, allowing you to control how defined and structured you want to wear it – which is a clutch move considering this entire line runs really big. (i’m wearing an xs and it was still a bit loose, which is a problem i normally never have!). paired with a cropped denim jacket and my favorite cream mules, this look was on the money for my cousin’s bridal shower, and i got a ton of compliments! before heading to the bridal shower, i woke up in a suite at the roxy hotel where i spent my wedding night — and my first anniversary!

i had this fun little shoot before i left the premises to get a ‘morning-after’ breakfast at a diner with the hubby. and through it all, i never felt over (or under) dressed. current and classic at the same time. once again… it’s target for the win! if you haven’t gone out and tried a shirtdress… now’s the time. you’ll be seriously glad you did. check me out on instagram to stay in the loop!
